As an active Movember supporter for many years, I’ve been proud to help raise money and awareness in support of men’s health issues like prostate and testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. And I’ve written before about how Movember uses social marketing techniques to promote men’s health issues.
But this year was my first leading a team of fundraisers, helping my Mo Bros’ and Mo Sistas’ at Recruitics through “no-shave November”. What started by a post gauging interest on Slack was quickly embraced by Recruitics’ leadership and with members signing up from across our company. We even organized a “Waffle Wednesday” fundraiser to earn donations from our hungry co-workers!
We set a very high goal for 2018: $1000 in fundraising, and grew interest with few more ways to get involved such as growing a mustache, setting exercise goals, or simply starting conversations with friends and family. Based on my past fundraising, I knew I could turn to friends and family for their support. But I never expected how much support we could receive from our colleagues and coworkers at Recruitics.
By the end of Movember 2018, our team crushed our fundraising goal as support came from across the company to help push us over the top. We raised $1660 in total this year and generated countless conversations with friends, family, and coworkers about men’s health issues. At the end of the month, I received a special note from the team at Movember:
“On behalf of the team at Movember, I just wanted to say thank you again for joining us this year. Your team, Recruitics, has also done amazing things, raising $1,660 while spreading awareness has not gone unnoticed and we are grateful for your support.
The funds you raised are already making a difference for men with prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and those facing tough times in mental health – creating resources, networks, communities and most of all change.”
I am so proud for all we accomplished as a team this Movember – thank you to all my friends and family who contributed once again, and my new Mo’Bros and Mo’Sistas at Recruitics who rallied around out cause and shared their support this year
Update: To celebrate our accomplishment I decided to keep my mustache and beard an extra month longer, waiting until 2019 to finally start new year with a a fresh shave:
